Data comes live from DataSF: Department of Building Inspection complaints, notices of violation and building permits; Fire Department violations; Rent Board eviction notices, buyout agreements, petitions, the housing inventory and allowable increases; the soft-story program; 311 cases; police incident reports; the Assessor's secured roll; historic resource status; residential parking permit eligibility; the 100-year storm flood map, sea level rise maps and state seismic hazard zones; night noise permits; and the city's Enterprise Addressing System.
Comparisons use a random sample of 213 San Francisco buildings with three or more units (88 for noise and car break-ins), drawn in October 2026. “The block” means everything within 150 meters, about a block in each direction; Rent Board eviction notices and petitions are published by street block, so those cover both sides of the 100-block the building is on.
Rent control here is an estimate from the building's age and type; only the Rent Board can say for sure. A clean record is a good sign, not a guarantee.
